Cookie Policy
Overview
TOM Enterprise ("TOM," "we," "us," or "our") operates the website located at tomenterprise.org and associated subdomains (collectively, the "Site"). This Cookie Policy explains how TOM uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on the Site, what information those technologies collect, and the choices available to you regarding their use.
By continuing to use the Site after this policy is made available to you, you acknowledge the use of cookies as described herein. Where applicable law requires your consent prior to the placement of non-essential cookies, TOM will request that consent before placing such cookies.
This Cookie Policy should be read alongside TOM's Privacy Policy, which describes more broadly how TOM collects, uses, and protects personal information. If you have questions about this policy, see the Contact Us section below.
Plain-language summary: Cookies are small files that websites place on your device to make them function properly, remember your preferences, and understand how visitors use the site. TOM uses a limited set of cookies — primarily to keep the site working and to understand aggregate traffic patterns. This policy tells you exactly what we use and why.
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device — computer, tablet, or smartphone — when you visit. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, to remember information about your visit, and to help website operators understand how their sites are being used.
Cookies set by the website you are visiting are called "first-party cookies." Cookies set by organizations other than the website owner are called "third-party cookies." Third-party cookies are typically set by services the website uses — such as analytics platforms, embedded content, or functionality tools.
Cookie Duration
Cookies can be either session cookies or persistent cookies:
- Session cookies are temporary. They exist only while your browser is open and are automatically deleted when you close it. They help the site function during a single visit.
- Persistent cookies remain on your device for a set period of time (defined in the cookie) or until you delete them. They allow the site to remember you on return visits.
Similar Technologies
In addition to cookies, TOM's Site may use similar technologies including:
- Web beacons (also called pixel tags or clear GIFs) — tiny image files embedded in web pages or emails that can track certain interactions.
- Local storage — a browser feature that allows websites to store information locally on your device beyond what traditional cookies support.
- Session storage — similar to local storage but cleared when your browsing session ends.
Where this policy refers to "cookies," it includes these similar technologies unless otherwise specified.
Types of Cookies We Use
TOM uses four categories of cookies on the Site. The table below describes each category, its purpose, and whether it is required for the Site to function.
| Category | Purpose | Duration | Required? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly Necessary Always On | Essential for the Site to function — security, navigation, form submission, and session management. The site cannot operate without these. | Session / Short-term persistent | Yes — cannot be disabled |
| Functional Optional | Remembers your preferences and settings (such as form field values or display preferences) to improve your experience on return visits. | Persistent (up to 12 months) | No — but disabling may affect usability |
| Analytics Optional | Helps TOM understand how visitors interact with the Site — which pages are visited, how long visitors stay, and how they navigate. Data is aggregated and not tied to individual identities. | Persistent (up to 24 months) | No — opt-out available |
| Third-Party / Embedded Third Party | Set by third-party services embedded in the Site (such as scheduling tools or form platforms). Governed by those third parties' own cookie policies. | Varies by third party | Varies — see Section 04 |
Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are essential for the Site to operate. They enable core functions such as page navigation, access to secure areas of the Site, form security (CSRF protection), and session continuity. Without these cookies, services you have requested — such as completing an intake form or booking a session — cannot be provided. These cookies do not collect any information that could be used for marketing or to track your activity beyond the current session.
Functional Cookies
Functional cookies allow the Site to remember choices you make and provide enhanced, more personalized features. For example, they may remember your preferences or pre-fill fields you have previously completed. The information these cookies collect may be anonymized and they cannot track your browsing activity on other websites.
Analytics Cookies
TOM uses analytics cookies to understand how visitors use the Site — which pages are most visited, how long visitors spend on different sections, and what paths visitors take through the Site. This data helps TOM improve the Site experience over time. Analytics data is collected in aggregate and is not used to personally identify any individual visitor.
TOM's Site is built on Squarespace, which provides built-in analytics. TOM may also use Google Analytics or similar services. Where Google Analytics is used, IP anonymization is enabled to the extent available. See the Third-Party Cookies section for more detail.
Data minimization: TOM collects only the cookie data necessary to operate the Site and understand aggregate usage. TOM does not use cookies to build advertising profiles, target ads, or sell data to third parties.
Third-Party Cookies
Some features of the Site are powered by third-party services that may set their own cookies on your device. TOM does not control these cookies and they are subject to the privacy and cookie policies of those third parties. Below are the third-party services currently integrated into the Site that may set cookies:
| Service | Purpose | Cookie Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Squarespace | Website platform — powers site functionality, analytics, and security | squarespace.com/privacy |
| Google Analytics | Aggregate site traffic analysis — page views, session duration, navigation paths | policies.google.com/privacy |
| Acuity Scheduling | Appointment booking and scheduling — embedded booking forms and calendar | acuityscheduling.com/privacy |
| HubSpot | CRM and contact management — may set cookies when forms are submitted or embedded content is accessed | legal.hubspot.com/privacy-policy |
| YouTube / Vimeo | Embedded video content — if videos are embedded on the Site, these platforms may set cookies | Google Privacy / Vimeo Privacy |
TOM is not responsible for the content or privacy practices of third-party services. We encourage you to review the privacy and cookie policies of any third-party services you interact with through the Site.
TOM periodically reviews its third-party integrations and updates this list when services are added or removed. If you have questions about a specific third-party service embedded on the Site, contact TOM at hello@tomenterprise.org.
Your Cookie Preferences
With the exception of strictly necessary cookies — which are required for the Site to operate — you have choices about how cookies are used when you visit the Site. Below is a summary of each category and your control over it.
To opt out of Google Analytics specifically, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, which prevents Google Analytics from collecting data about your visits.
Browser Controls
Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can typically configure your browser to block all cookies, block third-party cookies only, clear cookies on browser close, or receive a notification before a cookie is placed. Below are links to cookie management instructions for common browsers:
Please note that disabling cookies — particularly strictly necessary cookies — may affect the functionality of the Site. Certain features, including appointment booking, contact forms, and secure page access, may not function correctly if all cookies are blocked.
For mobile devices, cookie settings are typically managed through your device's browser settings or, in some cases, through the device's privacy settings menu. Consult your device manufacturer's documentation for specific instructions.
Do Not Track
Some browsers include a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature that sends a signal to websites requesting that your browsing activity not be tracked. There is currently no universally accepted standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals, and TOM's Site does not currently alter its data collection or use practices in response to DNT browser signals.
TOM will continue to monitor the development of DNT standards and will update this policy if TOM's practices change in relation to DNT signals. In the meantime, the cookie controls described in this policy — including browser settings and the Google Analytics opt-out add-on — remain available to you regardless of your DNT setting.
Children's Privacy
The Site is not directed to individuals under the age of 13, and TOM does not knowingly place cookies on the devices of children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child under 13 has visited the Site and had cookies placed on their device, please contact TOM at hello@tomenterprise.org and TOM will take steps to address the matter.
Policy Updates
TOM may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies and technologies used on the Site, changes in applicable law, or changes in TOM's practices. When TOM updates this policy, the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly.
If TOM makes material changes to how cookies are used — including changes that affect your rights or that introduce new categories of cookies — TOM will provide notice on the Site prior to those changes taking effect, where required by applicable law.
Your continued use of the Site after any update to this Cookie Policy constitutes your acknowledgment of the revised policy. TOM encourages you to review this page periodically to stay informed about how cookies are used.
Version history: This is the initial version of TOM Enterprise's Cookie Policy, effective June 1, 2026. Prior to this date, cookie practices were covered under TOM's general Privacy Policy.
