The Initiative

The Education That Should Have Been There All Along.

Legacy Start Young is TOM Enterprise's youth-facing initiative β€” a set of age-appropriate workshop programs designed to introduce creative young people to brand thinking, entrepreneurial strategy, and financial fluency before they reach adulthood without it.

Most creative young people who want to build something are told to "focus on school" and figure out the business part later. Legacy Start Young changes that. It gives them the vocabulary, frameworks, and confidence earlier β€” so by the time they're adults, they already think like builders.

Ages 13–15 Β· Track 01 The Creative Spark Track Introduction to creative identity, basic brand thinking, and the idea that your creativity can be a business β€” not just a hobby.
Ages 16–18 Β· Track 02 The Builder Track Practical entrepreneurship β€” brand identity, business model basics, pricing, and money fundamentals for high schoolers with real creative ambitions.
Ages 19–24 Β· Track 03 The Launch Track For young adults building or preparing to build β€” a bridge to the full Legacy Builder Cohort experience with early-stage business development support.
Why It Exists

Legacy doesn't wait until you're ready. It starts when you start.

The founder who discovers brand strategy at 16 enters adulthood with a 10-year head start on the one who discovers it at 26. TOM built Legacy Start Young because the pipeline to generational creative entrepreneurship starts in the classroom β€” not the incubator.

Builds the Creative Entrepreneur Identity Early Young people who see themselves as builders β€” not just creatives β€” make fundamentally different decisions about their education, time, and money.
Creates a Direct Pipeline to the Legacy Builder Cohort LSY graduates who go on to build creative businesses are the ideal future cohort candidates β€” already fluent in TOM's frameworks and culture.
Expands TOM's Community Investment TOM's 501(c)(3) mission is broader than any single cohort. Legacy Start Young is TOM's proof of community-level impact β€” the work that unlocks grant funding and corporate partnerships.
Reaches First-Generation Founders Before the Gap Widens The business knowledge gap between first-generation and multi-generational founders starts early. LSY intervenes at the right time.

Who It's For

Built for These Young People.

Legacy Start Young is designed for specific young people β€” and for the organizations, schools, and communities that want to invest in their futures.

Student Profile 01 The Talented Teen with a Creative Side Hustle Already making money from their art, music, photography, or design β€” but pricing by feel, with no brand, no plan, and no financial habits. LSY gives them the structure to turn a hustle into a foundation.
Student Profile 02 The Young Visionary with a Big Idea and No Roadmap They have the idea. They have the passion. They have absolutely no idea how to turn it into a business. LSY gives them the vocabulary and the first real steps.
Student Profile 03 The First-Generation Student Who Needs to See It's Possible Growing up without entrepreneurial role models who look like them or come from where they come from. LSY makes entrepreneurship visible, tangible, and achievable before the belief gap hardens.
Student Profile 04 The Young Adult Ready to Bridge Into the Cohort Ages 19–24, building or about to build. They've aged out of typical youth programs but aren't quite ready for the full adult cohort. The Launch Track is built exactly for this moment.

Common Questions

Quick Answers.

The most common questions from schools, parents, and young founders about Legacy Start Young.

Absolutely not. Legacy Start Young is specifically designed for young people who have never had access to business education β€” no prior experience, coursework, or background required. The curriculum starts from zero and builds from there.
Yes, and TOM actively encourages it. For younger participants (ages 13–15), parental awareness and engagement strengthens the learning that happens at home. TOM provides parent/guardian summaries after each session and can include a family-facing closing session upon request.
Legacy Start Young is the intentional pipeline to TOM's adult Legacy Builder Cohort. Launch Track graduates (ages 19–24) who are building real businesses are encouraged to apply directly to the next cohort. LSY alumni are given priority consideration in the Surgical Logic scoring process and receive application fee waivers where applicable.
TOM needs a point of contact, a committed group of students, a consistent time slot, and a space (physical or virtual). TOM handles curriculum, facilitation, and materials. For school-embedded programs, a participating educator or staff liaison is helpful but not required.
No. The skills taught in Legacy Start Young β€” brand thinking, understanding value, financial literacy, strategic planning, and communication β€” are useful for every career path. Many of TOM's most engaged participants discover entrepreneurial ambitions during the program that they didn't know they had. The curriculum is designed to be relevant whether a student ends up building their own business or working for someone else's.
Timeline depends on program type and scheduling. A workshop series can typically be launched within 4–6 weeks of a confirmed partnership. A school-embedded program requires a semester of planning. Start with a Partnership Call β€” TOM will give you a realistic timeline for your specific situation within that conversation.
